Sign from Governor Hochul bill signing

GOSO/SAVE’s Nicole Myers Helps Governor Hochul Codify the NYS Office of Gun Violence Prevention in Law

GOSO/SAVE’s Nicole Myers was thrilled to close out Gun Violence Awareness Month in June at a bill signing targeting violence in NYC communities with Governor Kathy Hochul, Attorney General Letitia James, New York State Senator Zellnor Y. Myrie, State Assembly Member Monique Chandler Waterman, and others.

The Governor’s bill codifies the New York State Office of Gun Violence Prevention in law and doubles down on effective violence prevention strategies. $350 million in announced funding will focus on eliminating the flow of illegal firearms into New York City, strengthening current gun laws, and expanding community-based intervention programs like GOSO/SAVE.

New data shows sharp declines in gun violence statewide — the NYPD says citywide shootings have declines nearly 23% compared to the same time last year — a trend our violence interrupters have witnessed first hand in East Harlem. We’re thrilled that the Governor is renewing support for the work that our violence interrupters and so many others have been doing in communities across New York City and the state.
